I made my way down to Southern California for some fun and fall skiing. I started off by driving 6 hours and made my first stop at the University of Southern California; where my brother attends school. He was turning 20 years old and we celebrated by hanging out in Los Angeles and we went to the Giants vs Dodgers game.
Next, I stopped by the Rogers’ residence at Canyon Lake. This was my first time at this site. I learned that Canyon Lake is the largest gated community in the world with approximately 14,000 residents. As I drove around, everyone in the community had a boat. It is a perfect community to to be a part of for anyone who loves water skiing.
Next thing I knew, my prodigy, Danny Goldman, had flown down to San Diego for the last record tournament of the year. We headed east and drove 2 hours to Imperial Lakes in El Centro. This is where the 2007 Western Regionals were hosted. Danny has been on a roll since nationals. He has ran 38 off 3 times and now has his Open Rating. His best round was 5 1/2@38 off. Being down south, I wasn’t able to ski much since I was also doing an internship with a company who manages sports complex. So I was happy to run 38 off all three rounds.
My final stop was in Santa Barbara. I visited a long time friend, Casey Dutton, who attends UCSB. I lived on the beach in Isla Vista for a week at his house where I was able to have some fun in the ocean. I went body boarding a handful of times and even tried to surf for the first time. I was also able to meet up with the Santa Barbara Water Ski Team. They always have a fun group of people on the team. It was great to see Shelby Adney and Caleb Johnson who have been long time ski friends.
Below is a video of one of the rounds of Open Men and Master’s Men Slalom from the Imperial Tournament.

I am back in Elk Grove now where I am training for the the University World Championships that are taking place this January in Santiago, Chile. I also recently got involved with this great company, Survey2Survey. The founder and owner is a water skier. Check out the site
Keep checking out the site, I will be posting some information on training through the winter and good cross-training to keep in shape for next year.
