Today’s BD’s Saturday SHOUT OUT goes out to Daniel (Danny) Goldman!! (nominated by Karl Garrett) Danny is a Senior at Elk Grove High School, a varsity basketball player and an open water skier. I have seen Danny grow up from a toddler to a child and to into a teenager/young man. He is like a little brother to me and I am proud of what he has achieved on the basketball court this year.
Danny’s high school basketball career has come to an end after a tough season for his team but Danny had an awesome year. I had the privilege to watch about 7 of his games and see his skills in person. I have always known Danny could shoot the 3 ball from when we played horse over the years. Game situations are different but he could still hit the 3 pointer in throughout the game and in clutch situations. Danny was in the top 3 on his team in rebounds, steals and charges. He lead the team in points (12.3/game), 3 point field goals made 75 in 24 games, free throws made (39 of 44) and free throw percentage (89%).
Danny lead the league in 3 point field goals made averaging 3.1 per game. He was one of the top 9 players in the Delta Valley league in the following categories: scoring (7th), rebounds (7th), steals (8th), charges (5th), free throws made (9th). Danny Goldman was named Delta Valley All League Player of the Year (and mid-season player of the year). Danny made a handful of clutch 3 pointers and three throws to win the game or put the game into overtime. It was great to see him put one the HERD jersey, as I did, and see him become one of the top players in the league; that I once played in.
Even though Danny’s basketball career is over, keep a look out for him on the water. Last year, Danny obtained his open rating and running 38off at least 13 times and getting 3@39off 4 times. He defended his title as the B3 Western Region Champion and finished 5th at Nationals. This will be his first summer without basketball so he will be able to dedicate more time to skiing.
